We’re Spencer and Sheila, S2 Cycling. We’ve been enjoying the tandem life since 1999 when we bought a used Davidson at
a charity auction. Spencer is an avid cyclist. He used to commute through the hills in San Francisco and even now rides to work every day. Sheila was just beginning to enjoy biking in 1990 when she suffered a
terrible accident on her single. The pins in her foot knocked her enthusiasm for biking out the window until we got our tandem.
In only one season we discovered how
wonderful the big bike was and attended our first tandem rally. We bought our own Rodriguez in 2000, named her Sweat-Hard, and set out to train for the STP. On the way, we discovered rides all around the state,
Tri-Cities, Wenatchee, Vancouver, Mt. Vernon, Gig Harbor, and Olympia. We thrilled to a 50+ mph hill on the Camano Climb, froze our toes on the Tour de Blast, and learned the
joys of pacing with a fellow tandem on the Flying Wheels. (Thanks, Jeff and Sandy!) The STP was a snap.
We wanted to increase our contacts in the
tandem world, so we’ve helped pull together ETC. Our hope is that everyone can find new people to ride with, new places to visit, and more fun. That’s why Sheila’s become the first president of the ETC board and Spencer is the
current rides coordinator.
On a personal side, Sheila is a graphic designer and Spencer teaches 4th grade in Seattle Public Schools. We live in Seattle with our cat, Khubie. We plan to ride STP
, and RAW this year.
