Mike & I just want to thank
everyone who participated in the inaugural Spring in the Yakima Valley ride. Kenny (first slide below) did a great job keeping an eye on us, and carrying the few purchases a few of us made at Sagelands (he did an even better
job of ferrying the purchases we made late Saturday afternoon during the quick trip to a couple of wineries - Thank you Kenny!)
We did have a few "incidents" - Greg and Elisabeth blew a tire on a nice downhill,
Kim lost a screw out of her cleat, requiring a quick field repair by Chris Kooser (a great on-the-road mechanic), Rebecca (ETC's new Vice President) got a flat… Richard and Pat had a flat… and speaking of flats, Mike and I also
had a flat. After we got home, Mike found it as he was lifting the bike down from the carrier - couldn't have asked for a better location! Gladly for everyone, nothing was serious.
Dinner Saturday night was fun - lots of
laughter and smiles. And during dinner Greg suggested an alternate route for Sunday morning, which turned out to be a great ride. It was not quite 30 miles for those of us who started out from Sarg Hubbard Park, and since there
were no cue sheets, we all rode as a pack, which was so much fun. I don't think I ever heard so many conversations going on - and there were plenty of grins to go around. Kenny brought up the rear, hazard lights flashing - a
great way of protecting us.
Good food, good fun - thank you for being there. We'll be riding in Yakima again on the last weekend of September, for the 2nd annual Goathead Run, but it will follow a tried-and-true format:
lots of stops to taste wine. And lots and lots of visiting, socializing, swapping stories on and off the bikes. We'll be sending out reminders to everyone who participated in this ride. The fall ride is pure fun, with a little
cycling thrown in.
See you on the road! Mike & Renda Murphy
